The Leadership Challenge The Leadership Challenge, 4th Edition
Author: James M. Kouzes, Barry Z. Posner

Of all the leadership books I’ve collected and read over the years, The Leadership Challenge is the one I keep coming back to for both inspiration and practical application. It’s also the leadership book I refer most often to my clients.  When I discovered that authors Kouzes and Posner had come out with an updated fourth edition, it was the next book I added to my reading list.  The authors identify five practices of exemplary leadership:

  1. Model the Way
  2. Inspire a Shared Vision
  3. Challenge the Process
  4. Enable Others to Act
  5. Encourage the Heart

These five practices, based on twenty-five years of global research, provide a solid foundation on which leaders – and those they lead – can build to accomplish great things.

Leadership is ultimately about creating a way for people to contribute to making something extraordinary happen.

- Alan Keith, Genentech

I highly recommend this book to both new and experienced leaders who aspire to develop or strengthen their leadership capabilities.
